Crocus Great Cornard Nursery and Preschool is situated on the campus of Great Cornard Upper School and Technology College, Suffolk, near the market town of Sudbury. The nursery is next to Cornfields Children’s Centre, where our babycare room is located.

Our “Outstanding” nursery provides safe, stimulating environments for babies and children. With separate rooms for different age groups, we provide a ‘home from home’ environment where children learn and develop at levels which suit them. For babies, we encourage a mixture of gentle play and quiet nurturing. Toddlers access a variety of carefully planned activities designed by our highly-qualified staff team – typical activities for our youngsters include story time, creative fun and role playing.

“I am very happy with the care my son gets at Crocus. He is always very happy to go and I feel comfortable leaving him. All the staff are always happy to help and will talk me through any questions or problems I may have” Parent at Crocus Great Cornard Nursery and Preschool

The focus for pre-school children is the beginning of academic life – we give a gentle, age-appropriate introduction to subjects such as reading, writing, maths, science and IT. By the time Crocus children are ready to graduate, we aim to have them brimming with self-confidence and excited about the move to ‘big school’!

Each room at Great Cornard opens up onto our large private gardens, which are much-loved spaces for learning and play. With safety surfaces, playhouses and a small vegetable patch, Crocus children enjoy growing plants and herbs, hunting ‘mini-beasties’ (insects) and safely exploring in the fresh air.

“Our son is very happy at Crocus Nursery and all the staff are always friendly and approachable. We'll be sad to see him leave when he starts school in September” - Parent at Crocus Great Cornard Nursery and Preschool

In addition to standard nursery subjects, we offer a fantastic range of extra-curricular activities, including Spanish and PE lessons. Our excellent location on-site at Great Cornard Upper School also means that as well as our own facilities, we are able to visit their school library and enjoy their Sports Centre.

Parent partnerships are actively promoted and events are organised throughout the year where all the family are invited to join in with nursery life - these include Mothers/Father’s Day breakfasts, Grandparents tea parties, Sports Days and Graduation ceremonies.

We are immensely proud to have achieved an ‘Outstanding’ Rating at our last Ofsted Inspection - a reflection of the ongoing hard work and commitment of our dedicated staff!

“Children are flourishing in this warm and welcoming environment. An exemplary key person system, which begins even before children start attending the nursery, helps to ensure they each develop a strong relationship with staff. Staff have an expert knowledge of the children in their care and go to considerable lengths to ensure their individual needs are well met.” Ofsted January 2013
