What is Forest School at New Eltham? Forest School is a child-centred learning process that takes place within the woodland/natural environment, stimulating the holistic growth of children through its long-term programme. Our vision is to raise Nature explorers using an eco-pedagogy that nurtures Joy, Adventure and Wonder.
Benefits: At Forest School, children have the opportunity to become nature explorers, den builders, risk takers, curious detectives, storytellers, and much more. The main values underpinning our approach are joy, adventure, and wonder. Through prolonged periods in wild nature, children develop a sense of wonder which instigates natural learning moments. The outdoor natural environment provides children with:
A joyful and adventurous childhood
A space where they can wander and wonder
Access to open-ended resources
Opportunities for risk and challenge
A connection to and love of nature
An ethics of care
A nurturing community
Children participate in a wide range of activities such as:
Nature walk
Den building
Tool work
Campfire (storytelling/cooking)
Mud kitchen
