Timperley Day Nursery and Preschool has been shortlisted as a finalist for the Community Nursery of the Year Award while James Sharrod, Senior Professional Development Lead, has been shortlisted as a finalist for the Nursery Training and Development Award.

The nursery has been shortlisted for the award as a result of its longstanding relationship with Allingham House, a nearby residential care home providing nursing and dementia care. Since 2016 the nursery children have regularly visited and connected with the residents of Allingham House.

Janette Schenk, Nursery Manager, said: “I am really proud that we have continued to grow our intergenerational relationships with our friends at Allingham House, especially through the pandemic when we weren’t able to see our friends and extended family.  It has been heart-warming watching the interactions over Zoom, socially distanced visits outdoors and being pen pals by creating gifts and cards for each other.”

One nursery child, Harry, commented: “I like to see them because one is funny like my Grandad – he likes the Grand old Duke of York.”

Another child, Hannah, also said of their visits to Allingham House: It’s nice doing that, I liked it when we went round and round and they clapped and cheered.”

Sharrod said: “I am thrilled to have been shortlisted for the NMT Nursery Training and Development Award. I love being able to enrich the lives of others and see the impact on our number priority – children. Nothing makes me happier than receiving feedback that my training has helped our leaders develop their own skills which enable better outcomes for children.

“The challenge of taking all training onto a virtual platform has been so rewarding. Being able to replicate our high standards in the most creative ways has certainly been a lot of fun. Just being nominated is recognition for the hard work of so many great colleagues at Bright Horizons.”

Winners of the NMT National Nursery Awards 2021 will be presented with their trophies at the high-profile ceremony held on Saturday 20th November at the London Hilton Metropole.
