Bright Horizons Norfolk Lodge Montessori Day Nursery and Preschool, have recently received a Green Flag Award recognising their commitment to environmental efforts.
The award is a result of the ongoing involvement of the nursery in the Eco-Schools Programme. This initiative is designed with seven steps that nurseries and schools follow to help empower young people to make changes to protect the environment and understand the impact of climate change. Those involved in the programme can achieve the Green Flag Award as recognition and acknowledgement of the ecological achievements made by young people.
Debbie, Deputy Manager at Bright Horizons Norfolk Lodge Montessori Day Nursery and Preschool said: “We received our award in June, and we are incredibly proud of all the work the children have done and how passionate they have been during all their eco activities. It’s great that we can incorporate learning about how to protect our environment as part of our curriculum because it’s a great way to nurture each child and inspire the next generation to continue to look after our planet.”
The nursery has been working hard to achieve the Eco-Schools Green Flag status. From creating activities for both the outdoors and indoors such as, creating an eco-garden with biodiversity all around such as wildflower beds, vegetable patches and a small pond area. They’ve hung up bird feeders and created hedgehog habitats in their woodland areas to try and protect and create a safe home for the wildlife amongst the nursery’s garden. Inside the nursery, the children have been learning about the importance of recycling and have added recycling bins in all classrooms and in their hall area.
Bright Horizons currently has 40 nurseries across England and Scotland who have achieved their Green Flag Award.
