Bright Horizons Chilworth Day Nursery and Preschool in Southampton recently set up their own stall at a few car boot sales in the area and raised £760 for The Bright Horizons Foundation for Children.
The nursery sold a variety of items, including toys, children's books, and clothes. The proceeds from the sale will go towards Bright Spaces in domestic abuse refuges, homeless shelters, prison visits halls and child protection suites in police stations. The fundraising activity was chosen to ensure families can support in reducing waste that is sent to landfills, and instead give old toys and children’s clothing and books to another home, whilst also supporting a good cause.
The Foundation is focused on improving the lives of vulnerable children and families experiencing crisis and disadvantage. Its Bright Spaces are enriching play environments for children impacted by domestic violence, abuse, homelessness, parental imprisonment, and ill health, and are designed to help children heal from trauma through play.
Charlotte, Nursery Manager at Bright Horizons Chilworth Day Nursery and Preschool, said: "We are thrilled to have organised this car boot sale and to have raised money for the Foundation. The funds raised will contribute to the Foundation's efforts in opening more Bright Spaces across the UK, providing vital support to those who need it most."
In 2024 the Bright Horizons Foundation will open its 100th Bright Space in the UK to support vulnerable children. To celebrate this milestone, the Foundation has launched its 100 Your Way campaign, with a goal of raising £100,000.
