Bright Horizons Fair Oak Nursery in Eastleigh achieves the prestigious Eco-School's Green Flag Award for the second year in a row.
Fair Oak nursery has been awarded their second consecutive Green Flag accreditation for their commitment to educating children on the earth and its future. Guided by the Eco-School's seven-step framework, the team at Fair Oak are constantly creating new ways to empower their young people to understand and protect the world around them.
Clare, Nursery Manager at Fair Oak said: “I’m so proud that we’ve achieved our Green Flag award for the second year running. The children are very young, but they love learning about all the ways to recycle at home and in the nursery. I feel passionately that if the team continues to do our part to educate future generations, then we can make the world a better place.”
“Our parents particularly love that the children grow their own vegetables in our patches which the amazing chef cooks into fresh and healthy meals for them.”
When the children aren’t planting vegetables, they might be litter picking in their local area or participating in the walk and cycle to nursery schemes. But the nursery’s hard work isn’t just focused on the outside; Inside the nursery the children learn about the importance of turning the lights off when they leave a room and how their toys get recycled and reused.
Recently, the children made a life-sized igloo out of used milk cartons collected throughout the week. Not only did they enjoy getting creative and building their own space to play, but they also had lots of fun dismantling their igloo and turning the cartons into bird feeders, lunch boxes, and works of art.
